What’s the difference between glass and quartz?

Glass and quartz are both materials, but they have different properties and uses. Glass is a solid material that is made by heating a mixture of silica (often in the form of sand), soda, and lime to a high temperature until it melts and then cools to a solid state. Glass is a transparent or translucent material that is often used in windows, mirrors, and other applications where transparency is desired.

Quartz, on the other hand, is a mineral made up of silicon dioxide (SiO2). It is a hard, crystalline material that is often used in the manufacture of watches, clocks, and other precision instruments because of its ability to vibrate at a very consistent frequency. Quartz is also used in the production of glass, ceramics, and abrasives.

In summary, glass is a man-made material, while quartz is a natural mineral. Glass is mostly used for transparency, while quartz is mostly used for its mechanical properties such as stability, hardness, and consistency.
